The Advantages of Concrete Screws Over Traditional Concrete Anchors

Faster Installation and Simpler Operation:

  • No Special Setting Tools Required: Traditional expansion anchors typically need to be hammered or require specialized setting tools to expand and secure them. Concrete screws, however, only require a pre-drilled pilot hole in the concrete (usually slightly smaller than the screw's diameter), then they can be driven directly in with an impact drill or torque wrench.

  • One-Step Installation: Concrete screws cut their own matching threads into the concrete as they're driven, achieving a secure fix in a single step. This significantly saves installation time, reduces construction steps, and lowers labor costs.

  • Ideal for Overhead Applications: This simplicity is particularly evident when performing overhead installations, reducing operational difficulty and fatigue.

Removability:

  • This is a significant advantage of concrete screws. Unlike most expansion anchors, which are difficult or impossible to remove without damage once installed, concrete screws can be unscrewed relatively easily.

  • High Flexibility: This makes them ideal for temporary fixings, installations that require repositioning, or scenarios where removal is needed after a project is complete (e.g., temporary supports, exhibition structures).

Lower Stress on the Substrate:

  • Traditional expansion anchors rely on expansion forces to create friction for fastening, which generates significant expansive stress within the concrete. In some cases, especially near edges or in brittle concrete, this stress can lead to cracking or damage to the concrete.

  • Concrete screws achieve their fix by threading into the material, applying cutting and compressive forces. The stress generated is much lower than that from expansion anchors, making them more suitable for edge installations or in crack-sensitive concrete.

Strong and Stable Load Capacity:

  • Despite being a non-expansive fixing method, modern concrete screws, through optimized thread designs (e.g., deep threads, serrated threads) and high-strength materials, can provide very reliable load capacities. In some cases, a concrete screw of the same diameter may even offer higher load capacities than a traditional expansion anchor.

  • Their threading mechanism provides excellent pull-out and shear performance.

Versatility and Wide Compatibility:

  • Concrete screws are not only suitable for concrete, but many products can also be used in solid brick, hollow brick, block, stone, and various other masonry materials, offering greater versatility.

  • They are available in various head types (hex head, countersunk, pan head, etc.) and different diameters and lengths to meet diverse application needs, whether for light-duty or medium-to-heavy-duty fixings.

  • Many products have also obtained seismic and fire-resistance certifications, broadening their range of applications.

  • While the cost per screw might be comparable to some traditional anchors, the significant savings in labor costs and time due to faster installation mean that concrete screws are often more economically viable in terms of overall project costs.
